With the cardboard box sled races held last weekend at Mystic Miner (a GREAT time, something I suggest!), that marked the close of Mystic’s runs (formerly Deer Mountain). Terry Peak Ski Area remains open until Sunday, April 3. So there’s still a few days to get a few more turns in!

But looking ahead to next year, Mystic Miner is having their annual dynamite ski season pass sale going on now through April 7 – what’s the dynamite sale you ask? For $149, you can ski all year long!!! $149 for the entire ski season. Not a bad deal! Check out http://skimystic.com/ for more info.

Haileo Deadwood Fans! The luck of the Irish is going to be in Historic Deadwood on March 17 & 19. It is time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with parades and a pub crawl. On Thursday Deadwood will kick-off St. Paddy’s day with its annual parade. Open container will be allowed between the hours of 5-10 pm. Remember to wear your green or else you will get pinched.

Saturday will be full of Irish fun! Pub Crawl and Poker Run Registration will start at 11 am at the Franklin Hotel. People can walk the streets with their green beer starting at noon and going until 10 pm. The Pub Crawl will start 2 pm and the locations are Franklin Hotel, Saloon # 10, Buffalo, Mustang Sally’s, Oyster Bay, Deadwood Tobacco, Elk’s Club, Miss Kitty’s Cantina, Wild Bill Bar and Seth’s Cellar. The Poker Run starts at 2 pm as well with Silverado, Gold Dust, Deadwood Gift Shoppe, Celebrity Hotel, Belle Joli, and Four Aces as the locations. There will be another St. Patrick’s Day parade running up the Historic Deadwood Main Street starting at 7 pm. The Final Location Party for the Pub Crawl will start at 8 pm at the Franklin Hotel.

If you can’t find anything green to wear on St. Paddy’s day the Silverado and ME (Deadwood Chamber of Commerce) are selling shirts. The shirts are of course green and say Top Five things I learned on St. Patrick’s Day in Deadwood. To learn what the shirts say they are $12 each. The shirts are benefitting the new Northern Hills Alliance daycare center here in Deadwood.

If you are hungry for some good Irish stew the Deadwood VFW will be hosting an Irish stew, bake sale, and silent auction on Thursday from 4:30-6:30 pm. Tickets for the Irish stew and Biscuit Dinner are $5 per person and all proceeds will go to local community projects.

Hello Deadwood fans! I survived my first event with the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce. If you didn’t come to Mardi Gras well that was your bad, because it was an amazing time. Historic Deadwood was packed full of people and fun. Friday night started off with the People’s Parade where we marched down Main Street Deadwood. After the parade we went to the Buffalo and crowned our King and Queen of Mardi Gras. Congratulations to Misty and Corbin Bateman of Sheridan, Wyo who won via Facebook votes. The royalty helped choose the winners of the costume contest where there was over $500 in cash and prizes.

Saturday was packed full of fun for everyone. If you have read my blog before you know that I was overly excited for the Cajun cook-off. There were 5 different places in Deadwood that participated in the cook –off. A congratulations needs to go out to Deadwood’s Four Aces for taking first place in the Mardi Gras Cajun cook-off. Their food was excellent and I enjoyed it very much! Not to forget about the cake decorating contest that was held at Deadwood’s Bullock. The cakes were amazing and I don’t understand how someone can make a cake look like it is a piece of art work. Wow is all I have to say! Saturday night was probably the funniest time I have had in Deadwood. A parade of lights ran up Historic Main Street here in Deadwood. Prizes were given out to a variety of different floats. Best overall went to Deadwood’s Saloon #10, which was a very large Vikings ship. Mayor’s Choice went to a large float that had Medusa’s head on it. There was also a float that had Towlie and Kenny (South Park characters) fishin in the dark.

The fun never ends here in Deadwood and the next event is just around the corner with the St. Patrick’s Day celebration. It will be two days full of Irish fun. Thursday March 17 open container will be from 5-10 pm. There will also be the Annual St. Patrick’s day parade starting at 5 pm. We will carry the fun over to Saturday March 19 for the Annual Pub Crawl. Ten different clans will take over Main Street Deadwood. Registration starts at 11 am in Deadwood’s Franklin Hotel and the crawl will start at 2 pm. Open container will start at 2 pm so the clans will be able to crawl safely. We can’t have a Deadwood festivity without another parade on Saturday starting at 7 pm. The pub crawls final location will be at the Franklin Hotel where everyone will meet up at 8 pm.

If you missed Mardi Gras don’t kick yourself to hard, because you will have other chances to have an amazing time here in Deadwood. First off you can become Irish with the St. Patrick’s Day celebration starts on March 17. If you can’t make it on Thursday you still be Irish on Saturday March 19. Hope to see everyone there!

My Dearest Deadwood fans, it has been a while since I had blogged last. I have been one busy girl, but here I am now to update you more on what is going on in Deadwood. Who is excited to hear more about Deadwood? Well I am guessing it is you since you are reading my blog.

Anyways Mardi Gras is this weekend and I am over the moon for it! It is going to be a great weekend and I can’t wait for Friday to come! Well once again I have other news besides Mardi Gras. I am now going to talk about another Deadwood Chamber event Wild Bill Days!

Deadwood will be kicking off summer with a celebration of the most infamous resident Wild Bill Hickok. Deadwood will be full of country music, flying dogs, and gun slinging on June 17 and 18. Okay, hold on you’re probably thinking I have gone wacko on you with the flying dog thing, but let me explain. One of the most popular events during Wild Bill Days is the Dock Dogs Big Air Wave Competition on Historic Deadwood’s Main Street. See now you understand the flying dog thing and if you have a dog you can register them in the competition if you want to see them fly. Visit www.dockdogs.com for more information.

Free concerts will be going on during these two days of the Wild Bill Days. The Bellamy Brothers will headline Friday night’s concerts, and Joe Diffie will take the stage on Saturday night. Wild Bill Days free concerts are co-sponsored by Budweiser. Music and beer what could be better.

Friday you also get the chance to see all the top performers in the Black Hills region. The people that will take the Wild Bill stage for the Eagle Colgate Country Showdown will have a chance to be one of 15 regional finalists. Don’t forget about the Fast Draw Championships and Old West Show.

Hello my lovely fans if I have any out there in the internet world. Life is good here in Deadwood. Everyone is working very hard to put together Mardi Gras for March 4-5, but I am not here today to talk about Mardi Gras believe it or not. I would like to put a bug in your ear about the First Annual Championship this event is a Texas hold ‘em tournament that will take place on May 13 to 15 at the Silverado-Franklin Historic Hotel & Gaming Complex in Deadwood.

There is going to be big money involved in this tournament! The Tournament is only going to have 320 seats available and if all of the seats are taken up the total prize payout for the Championships tournament will be $320,000. Right now I am wishing I was better at Texas’em, so I could win some of that money! The only thing I win at is the Deal or No Deal machine.

The Silverado-Franklin and nine of the tribal casinos will hold satellite poker for this tournament. Then of course the Championship will be held in the Silverado-Franklin. The Championship’s buy-in is $1,100. You must reserve a seat by May with a $100 deposit and if you pay two weeks in advance you get 10 percent off lodging at the Historic Franklin Hotel. Howdy Deadwood Fans it is Valerie once again with some more information on Mardi Gras. If you have not been keeping up with the blog I am the new intern here at Deadwood Chamber of Commerce. I have been here for about a month and I love it! Deadwood is such a great place to be. It is just so full of life and the people here are as happy as can be.
Time to get down to business Mardi Gras is going to be held March 4-5. This event will kick off with the People’s Parade at 7pm. Not to mention that there will be open container on Main Street from Four Aces Casino to the Masonic Lodge from 5 pm to 10 pm ONLY. The Buffalo will be having live music by Curly Taylor and Zydeco Trouble at 9 pm. You can find the Buffalo on Main Street in Deadwood.
Now to spice things up on Saturday Mardi Gras will be having a Cajun Cook-Off. If you have been keeping up with the blog you all know that I am overly excited for the Cook-Off. Which this will be happening in various businesses around Deadwood and this event will start at 2 pm. The last two year the Four Aces Casino has won the Cajun Cook-Off so everyone must see what they are bring to the table!
Let’s make this a little sweeter with the 3rd annual Mardi Gras Cake Decorating Contest! Anyone with a sweet tooth must make their way to The Historic Bullock Hotel between 1-4 pm. The cakes will be served to the public after the parade. Trust me when I say I will be getting some cake!
To finish off this adventure you will be hearing the sound of thousands of people catching beads that are being thrown for bright and colorful floats. The King and Queen of Mardi Gras will lead the Mardi Gras Parade of Lights which will be held at 7 pm. Every year 100,000 of beads are thrown to the spectators on Main Street Deadwood. I got my beads ready to rock and roll. For the last four year Saloon #10 has taken Best Overall. Watch out for their luminosity and falling beads.
Open container is the same on Saturday and if you missed the first performance of Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble they will be at The Buffalo Saloon after the parade.

Hello Deadwood fans, It is Valerie again on my second day of my internship. Just a little fun fact about me I am a fourth year student at Black Hills State University. Every day we are getting closer and closer to Deadwood Mardi Gras. The thing I am most excited about would be the Cajun Cook-Off, but it is close to lunch time for me. For the Cajun Cook-Off there will be a public tasting with donations encouraged for a local charity. The other event that I am fired up for would be the Deadwood’s Annual Mardi Gras Parade. The parade runs up the historic Main Street in Deadwood where over 50,000 beads are thrown into the crowd. There is much more to Deadwood Mardi Gras, but you all will have to stay tuned for my next blog. Have a warm and happy day!

I enjoy Deadwood because of all the events that they have throughout the year and I am proud to say that I will be contributing to the events this coming year. Things may have slowed a bit as we wait for the holidays (and the opening of the snowmobile trails on Dec. 15!), but there’s always something popping up to make news!
