The 2009 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is in the books! It was a busy week here in Deadwood, with plenty of bikes and excitement throughout the week. It seems like such a crazy week, and then when Monday hits, we call all take a breath again — and wait for the next biggie here in Deadwood: KOOL DEADWOOD NITES! Davy Jones of the Monkees and Ron Dante of the Archies will be here singing their hits. Free concerts on Main Street, can’t beat that! It’s going to be a fun event, and thankfully we have a few days to ‘rest’ before Kool Deadwood Nites. I say ‘rest’ somewhat tounge-in-cheek because it’s summertime and there’s not much time for rest!
Have a great week everyone and see you soon,
Lee

Kool Deadwood nights was a great time. However, during the parade on Sunday morning, I was very disappointed along with the crowd that I was sitting next to. The last few years that we have been going to Kool Deadwood nights we have enjoyed the parade. This year was not the case, as we saw more “regular” traffic parade in front of us. I was disappointed to see that the traffic wasn’t routed to the street behind where the parade route was. It created blocked vision for all that were sitting on the East side of the street where the cars were traveling, not to mention a safety hazard. There were people sitting on the curb while there was traffic traveling by. As a mother who had a child there I didn’t feel safe during this years parade. There were cars that would throw candy to the children, but do you think we felt safe letting our kids go out there and get it when there could be a car coming from the south direction? I would like to suggest for next year, and years to come to divert the traffic far away from the parade route and away from the bulk of the spectators. To ensure that everyone has a good time and can still be safe doing so.
