What a lovely day here in Deadwood! The sun is shining and the temperature is up in the 60’s. I hope all of my Deadwood fans are enjoying the good weather. If you have not yet taken in your share of the warm weather you have plenty of chances to do that here in the Historic Deadwood area. First off I would like to tell you about the Cinco de Mayo Salsa Contest and Mexican Food Fiesta. I bet you can guess what day this is on, but I will tell you anyways. On May 5th at the Lead Library you can enter your especial salsa in the contest. If you win the contest your salsa will be given the Hot Pepper Award. You can try all of the salsas enter in the contest and enjoy a Mexican dinner thanks to the Lead Library and Lead Deadwood Arts Center Board of Directors. This shindig will be held from 5-7 pm. Adults are $5 and students (K-12) are $3.

For you wino’s out there and I mean the ones that really enjoy wine. Deadwood Gulch Resort is hosting the Black Hills Wine Festival Sip & Shop. At this festival you can taste wine from the local South Dakota wineries. Californian, Australian, and other wines will be available for tasting as well. Local merchants will bring a unique taste to the festival. Door prizes will be given out along with entertainment provided by Kristi Lake and Dave Webb. As Benjamin Franklin said “Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance.” On Saturday May 7th from 1-6 pm make your day by going to the Black Hills Wine Festival Sip & Shop.
