With the hustle and bustle of the 2008 holiday season now at a close, we are all looking forward to a 2009 filled with excitement here in Deadwood.
The cold snap seems to have broken, and the snow hounds are in heaven. While the next big event in Deadwood is Mardi Gras (February 19-21), there’s always something happening in this northern Black Hills town. Skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, hiking and even biking (yep, I saw a mountain biker hitting a trail yesterday) are all happening. Both Deer Mountain and Terry Peak ski areas are 100 percent open and the snow is prime for skiing. The hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails in and around Deadwood are being groomed a couple times a week, and that’s in great shape as well. It’s definitely a year for snow lovers! Even those who prefer to bike year-round.
Back to Mardi Gras — we may be a few miles away from New Orleans, but the celebration in Deadwood isn’t one to miss. The town fills up for the weekend, so make plans now!
Yep, 2009 is shifting into high gear!
Have a great week all,
Lee
